AD is a series of biological processes in which micro organisms break down biodegradable waste in the absence of oxygen to produce renewable energy. Large amounts of waste, industrial wastewater and residuals, fats, oils, grease, and various other organic waste avoid getting dumped into landfills.
Once processed this waste is converted into biogas which can be used as fuel to generate electricity, or further processed into renewable natural gas and transportation fuel, separated digested solids can be composted and used for crop land, dairy bedding, and more.
The nutrients that are produced in the liquid stream can be used in agriculture as fertilizer.
